Questions, objects, and perspectives in evaluation

The paper aims to revisit or signal some issues facing the field of educational evaluation. Among other issues, the author criticizes the excessive centrality of non-higher education student assessment. This fact has a questionable impact on the evaluation policies, on the institutional evaluation of schools and on the appraisal of the professional performance of teachers. Drawing attention to the need to study the connections and interactions between the different forms of evaluation, this paper also questions the so-called blame policies, arguing that it is crucial to consider alternative forms (and practices) of accountability.
