Evaluation of satisfaction of disabled higher education students

In this new century there has been an increase in the number of registration of disabled students in higher education. However, this phenomenon is not being considered for the purpose of ascertaining the student's satisfaction in their access and permanence. This study aims to identify the student's level of satisfaction through an instrument constructed by the researcher. This is a case study of an exploratory nature, a university in the state of Sao Paulo. The study included eight visually impaired, physically disabled six, three with a hearing impairment and learning difficulties. This instrument was called Satisfaction Scale and Attitudes of People with Disabilities - ESA. Due to sample size, statistical techniques were used in an exploratory sense and not inferential. It was found that the averages of the groups differed statistically significantly (p= 0.065) by the Friedman test, indicating that there are differences between the types of satisfaction assessed in the study group, 90% confidence. These findings allow us to state that the application of this instrument is feasible and useful, in order to assess the direction the university is taking with regard to ensuring access and retention of students.
