Television researchers often claim that culture (at least the "high") have never found a good ally on television. This has to do, naturally, with the heavy political and economic interests that squeeze television, but also with standardized formats, little or no modifiable, which hinder the filmmakers more restless the task to propose bold, creative and artistically advanced projects. Metrópolis (TVE, Spain) is a program that has made a significant step in the alliance between contemporary art and television, first by the original thematics, second according to the original way to present the art and third by the dexterity in the use of expressive possibilities of the television medium. For this reason, there is always a pertinent question regarding this program: is Metropolis a program about contemporary art or is it a contemporary art program? Although using basically a quite well-known cultural magazine format, the program itself, regardless of its content, can be viewed as an artistic manifestation considering its daring visual and acoustic that draw up each issue, currently with many computer graphics resources.
