Abstract
In this review of Irene V. Small’s book Hélio Oiticica: folding the frame (2016), the author’s proposal of understanding “folding the frame” as a formal and conceptual procedure that emerges from the works of the artist themselves is discussed. In addition, the proposal of a History of Art in a contemporary globalized world as a way of avoiding the applying of normative theories from Modernism and the avant-garde, as is the case of Brazil, is analyzed.
