We performed a retrospective study of 154 patients with AIDS that presented lesions of the nervous system at necroscopic examination. Necropsies were performed in the Hospital Universitário Antonio Pedro (Niterói, Brazil). We emphasize epidemiologic and clinical data, neuropathologic findings, evolution time, and anatomo-clinical correlation. Data obtained can contribute in the definition of consequences of neurologic symptoms and signs for early diagnosis and best prognosis in AIDS.
