Head circumference in children from birth to three years: influence of socio-economic factors

The results of a study about the influence of socio economic levels upon the growth of the cephalic perimeter, are presented. 2,647 children, 1,367 males and 1,280 females were studied. Ages of children when studied were 3 days, and 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months and each child was included only once. As an index of socio economic level the monthly "per capita" income was used. Three categories were established: 1 — under Cr$ 50,00, 2 — from Cr$ 50,00 to Cr$ 99,99, 3 — Cr$ 100,00 or more. At the time the minimal legal salary was Cr$ 129,00, monthly. Significant differences were observed between groups 1 and 3 above 9 months of age. The results are composed to those of previous studies.
