Seminoma em testículo ectópico invadindo o canal vertebral: Síndrome de lesão dos plexos lombar e sacro

A case of semiríoma in ectopic testis of long and atypical evolution is reported. This neoplasm was incidentally noticed 9 years before, during an operation of inguinal hernia since been symptonfree. The first neurological symptons (crural monoplegia on the same side of the ectopia) followed a wrongly indicated operation of varices. In reality, varicose veins were consequent to the compression of the illiac vein by the tumor. The neoplasm progressed along the lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes of the testis, compressed lumbar and sacral plexuses and then invaded the vertebral canal, producing a syndrome of the cauda equina. The authors point out the facts that make the present case a rare and instructive one: the evolution of the neoplasm was characterized by its length, freedom of symptomatology during a long period, and grouth by contiguity; there was an absence of metastases; the tumor had a laminar shape and was adherent to the deep wall of the fossa illiac, which impossibilitate its palpation; and finally, the coincidence of modification of the neurological picture soon after the perfomance of an operation.
