EFFECT OF PESTICIDES USED IN GUAVA CROPS ON THE ENTOMOPATHOGENIC FUNGUS BEAUVERIA BASSIANA (BALS.) VUILL

ABSTRACT

The effect of 8 insecticides and 12 fungicides used in guava crops was evaluated on the fungus Beauveria bassianain vitro and under semi-field conditions. The effect in the laboratory was verified adding pesticides to the PDA media, according to the recommended concentrations and evaluating the parameters of mean diameter of colonies, the number of conidia produced and the virulence on the Galleria mellonella. For the semi-field tests, the suspensions of the chemical products and of the fungi were sprayed on guava plants in three different ways: a) the fungi were sprayed on after the spraying of the chemical products; b) chemical products were sprayed on after the spraying of the fungi; c) chemical products and fungi were sprayed on all together. Subsequently, leaves were collected and washed to obtain a suspension that was transferred to PDA medium to evaluate the sporulation, viability and virulence of the fungus. The results sowed that: in vitro, only the Actara 250 WG was compatible with the fungus, the other products being classified as moderately compatible, toxic and very toxic. For the semifield tests, the manner of implementation interfered in the development of the fungus, and Cuprozeb PM, Manzate 800 PM and Cerconil PM did not affect the entomopathogen in any of the parameters measured, so are indicated for use in a program of integrated pest management. In tests of virulence, the viability of the conidia was not affected, the fungus being pathogenic to G. mellonella.
