The capitalist unconscious based on Lacan, Marx and Zizek: consequences for the debate on gender identity

Abstract:

This work is based on psychoanalysis and historical-dialectical materialism, according to which human beings are constituted by a historical and social process. Based on Lacan’s appropriation of Marx’s work, we argue that the unconscious is a historical and political instance, constituted in interaction with the context in which the subject is inserted. We then propose that sexual division of labor is inscribed in the unconscious and gender identity is constituted based on this symbolic content. The awareness of this unequal division is hampered by an ideological fantasy.

Keywords:
unconscious capitalist; gender identity; ideological fantasy
