Comparative study between mechanic and manual suture in splenic tissue, of dogs

The spleen is the most common intra-abdominal organ hurt in contuso abdominal trauma (60%). It is known that the spleen has a defined immunologic function. The aim of this work was to comparar the mechanic suture in the spleen with the manual suture, in dogs. Twenty eight male adult dogs were operated, distributed in two groups of 14 dogs each. Each group was subdivided in two sub groups of 7 animals, in order to be operated in the 3rd and 7th post operative respectively. In the operative procedure of the control group (group I- manual suture) the hemostasia was accomplished being applied stitches in "U", with thread of 00 chromed catgut holed. In experimental group (group II- mechanic suture) the sharp lineal stapler was applied (TA55) to accomplish the hemostasis. It was found no significant statistical differences in the hematological exams of both groups. Macroscopy suggested larger haemorrhage presence in the group I, larger than in the group II, with no statistical significance. In conclusion, the mechanic suture, is a technique able to do the spleen’s hemostasis.
