Adaptação de auxílios ópticos em pacientes com degeneração macular relacionada à idade

Using optical aids in patients with age-related macular degeneration

RESUMO

Auxílios ópticos de perto e de longe foram testados e adaptados em pacientes com Degeneração Macular Relacionada à Idade. A acuidade visual melhorou utilizando-se os auxílios na maioria dos pacientes (78,l2%). Os auxílios ópticos mais prescritos para perto foram os óculos com lentes esferoprismáticas e para longe, os mais prescritos foram os telescópios binoculares. Após os testes iniciais e após ter estabelecido o auxílio adequado foram realizados programas de treinamento de aprendizagem do manuseio dos mesmos, antes da prescrição final. Verificou-se que a utilização dos auxílios ópticos possibilitou a realização de tarefas consideradas simples, mas antes impossíveis como leitura de jornal, assistir TV, pegar ônibus, entre outras.

SUMMARY

Optical aids for distance vision and for near vision were tested and prescribed for patients with age-related macular degeneration. Visual acuity increased using the aids for most (78.12%). The most common optical aids prescribed for near vision was the half-eye spectacle and for distance vision was the binocular telescope. After the initial examination and establishing the ideal optical aid, training program was started before its use. The low vision aids provided the possibility to perform simple tasks which was impossible before such as reading newspaper, watching TV, taking a bus, among others.
