SUMMARY
The town of Palmares, in Pernambuco State, Brazil, is recognized as a trachoma and chlamydial cervicitis endemic aerea.
Chlamydial conjuntivitis incidence was 23,81% in a group of 21 infants born vaginally, aged between 5 and 14 days. It was used monoclonal fluorescent antibody citology in laboratorial tests.
This incidence is considered high when compared to other countries but it is proportionally high to the elevated prevalence of chlamydial in that area.
