SUMMARY
Results of surgical management of 52 patients with large-angle esotropia, who underwent bilateral recession of medial recti and bilateral ressection of the lateral recti, were retrospectively reviewed according to the presence of the following factors: amblyopia, hyperopia than 4 diopters and neurological deficiences.
Significantly better results were found on the group of patients without those factors (61,5%) compared to the results showed by the group of patients where those factors were present (27,0%).
Due to the variability of our results and the great number of undercorrections, mainly on patients with the above factors, it is our impression that adjustable sutures should be indicated possible, in arder to reach better results with these selective approach.
