Eficácia e segurança do carteolol a 2% no tratamento da hipertensão ocular crônica

Efficacy and safety of the 2% carteolol solution for the treatment of chronic ocular hypertension

RESUMO

Foram avaliadas a eficácia como agente hipotensor ocular e a segurança do colírio de hidrodoreto de carteolol a 2% em comparação com as do colírio de maleato de timolol a 0,5%, em 34 indivíduos portadores de hipertensão ocular ou glaucoma primário de ângulo aberto, por 12 semanas.

Os resultados obtidos mostraram equipotência das duas drogas como agentes hipotensores oculares, nos diferentes momentos do estudo.

A solução do hidrocloreto de carteolol a 2%, assim como a de maleato de timolol a 0,5%, não mostrou efeitos colaterais locais ou cardiovasculares significantes.

SUMMARY

The authors studied in a 12-week trial the intraocular pressure reducing action of a 2% carteolol hydrochloride solution compared to 0,5% timolol maleate, in 34 individuals affected with ocular hypertension or primary open-angle glaucoma.

Both drugs produced a significant and equivalent reduction of intraocular pressure.

The 2% carteolol hydrochloride solution and the 0,5% timolol maleate as well didn't show relevant local or cardiovascular side effects.
