“Pars plana” vitrectomy in phakic rabbit eyes

SUMMARY

The authors studied 7 pair of phakic rabbit eyes that were submited to vitrectomy via “pars plana". Corioretinal cryo-adhesions were applied centered at 6 mm from the limbus to prevent retinal detachment and through which the vitrectomies were conducted.

The authors verified that 2 eyes developed cataracts, one eye complicated with retinal detachment and that the SF6 remained in the vitreous cavity approximately four days.

The authors conclude that the experimental model utilized simulates the conditions necessary for reproducing vitrectomy in the human eye.
