Changing indications for penetrating keratoplasty 1990-1997

RESUMO

Objetivo:

Documentar as mudanças nas indicações da ceratoplastia penetrante e comparar os resultados com as estatísticas de outros Serviços Universitários.

Métodos:

Analisamos as indicações para a ceratoplastia penetrante dos pacientes inscritos no Serviço de Córnea da Disciplina de Oftalmologia do Hospital Universitário Pedro Ernesto - UERJ entre 1995 e1997.

Resultados:

As cinco indicações mais freqüentes, em ordem decrescente, foram: ceratopatia bolhosa da pseudofacia (35,29 %), ceratocone (9,41 %), distrofia endotelial de Fuchs (8,24%), ceratopatia bolhosa da afacia (7,06 %) e ceratite herpética (7,06%).

Conclusões:

Houve mudança nas indicações da ceratoplastia penetrante entre o atualestudo e o previamente realizado pelos autores em 1990.

SUMMARY

Purpose:

To record the changes in the indications for penetrating keratoplasty in the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro and compare the results with the statistics of other University Departments in Brazil.

Methods:

We analyzed the waiting list for penetrating keratoplasty in the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro, between 1995 and 1997.

Results:

Our results demonstrate that the five most common indications were pseudophakic bullous keratopathy (35.29%), keratoconus (9.41%c), Fuchs endothelial dystrophy (8.24%o), aphakic bullous keratopathy (7.06%c) and herpetic keratitis (7.06%c).

Conclusions:

There were changes in the indications for penetrating keratoplasty between the present study and the study previously published by the authors in 1990.
