SUMMARY
We have examined 60 patients with Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Aids), 56 males and 4 females. The most frequent risk was the homossexual or bissexual males group (70%). Over than 50% of the patients complained about blurred vision, scotomas and decreased visual acuity. Visual signs were more frequent in patients of group IV (71,6%) of the Centers for Disease Control classification.
The most frequent finding, on the eye external examination, was dilation of conjunctival blood vessels, which was present in 21 patients (35%). Of those, 13 patients belonged to group IV.
In patients with decreased visual acuity, we found retinal changes like cotton wool spots, superficial haemorrhages, vasculitis, citomegalovirus retinitis and vitreo-retinal haemorrhees. The majority of those patients belonged lo Group IV.
Our most frequent finding was the dilatation of retinal venous vessels, which was present in 65% of the examined eyes. ln our opinion this finding should be considered a valious element in the early Aids diagnosis.
