Recovery index and quality of oocytes from Nellore heifers two to three months old superovulated and non-superovulated

Nelore heifers two to three months of age were evaluated for the recovery index and quality of their oocytes. For follicular aspiration and oocyte harvest were constituted the groups control (CG, n=9) and treated (TG, n=9), with the superovulation done with 140mg of FSH three days before surgery and 1.6 mg of LH intravenous 18 hours before surgery. The oocytes were classified as: QI-several layers of cumulus cells and homogeneous cytoplasm, QII-more than three cumulus cells layers and cytoplasm with some granulation, QIII-expanded cumulus cells, QIV-few cumulus cells or denuded, and QV-degenerated. No difference between the average index of oocyte for CG (24.5 oocytes/animal) and TG (25.2 oocytes/animal) was found. The TG showed higher percentage of QIII oocytes (24.7) than the CG (5). It can be concluded that Nelore heifers two to three months of age are fit to be oocyte donors without superovulation.
