Profile of blood components at immediate puerperium of ewes submitted to cesarean section and of those which had normal parturition

Blood components of ewes submitted to cesarean section (n=21, GI) were compared to those with normal parturition (n=11, GII). Blood samples were taken at the following times: on delivery day, before delivery (T1), and one day (T2), two days (T3), three days (T4), and seven days (T5) after delivery. All animals showed normal erytrogram values, which could not be used as a prognostic guide of the pos-partum outcome. Immature neutrophil count in the leucogram was characteristic of animals that died due to surgery (GI). This study showed the importance of sequential hemograms for post-cesarean follow up. Despite of the immature neutrophil count be suggestive of cesarean effect, no determined hematological variable provided an accurate prognostic guide of cesarean section.
