Bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity of the Baccharis trimera (Less.) D.C. - Compositae decocto, as disinfectant or antisseptic

The decocto of Baccharis trimera (Less.) D.C., Compositae, ("carqueja") was submitted to international standard tests to verify its in vitro antimicrobian activity. The minimal inhibitory and minimal bacterial concentrations of the decocto in several dilutions were determined through the serial dilution method in the multiple tube system. The results suggest the possibility of its use as disinfectant and antisseptic in certain problem-situations in animal production, related to the studied transmitted agents.
