Summary

Data on ecology, phenology and productivity of cupuaçu Theobroma grandiflorum are presetend. The species flowers, in the Manaus area, between May and September which corresponds to the rainiest part of the year, with fruit ripening between mid-November and the of March. Ten species of insects were found visiting the flowers: 5 species of bees, which are the probable pollinators, 2 species of ants, a beetle and a fly. With a mean production of 3500 flowers per tree a crop mean of 17.2 mature fruit, it presents a very low effiency in fruit set. The high correlation between flowers and fruits suggests, as in other species previously studied, that crop size in endogenously controled.
