As aves do rio Aripuanã, Estados de Mato Grosso e Amazonas

Summary

This paper presents a check-list of the birds collected and observed during a survey along the course of the Aripuanã River, an affluent of the right bank of the rio Madeira. The localities where the birds were collected are at Dardanelos on the upper stream of the river in the state of Mato Grosso and at Vista Alegre on the right bank of the Aripuanã opposite the mouth of the rio Guariba in the state of Amazonas. As a resumé of the avifauna of the Aripuanã basin, records are given of the birds reported from the rio Roosevelt (= Castanho or Dúvida) and of specimens in the collection of the Museu Nacional-Rio de Janeiro which were collected in 1909 and 1914 by Commissão Rondón. Also, the recent collection made by the staff of the Museu de Zoologia de Universidade de São Paulo at Prainha and Periquito during the months of September, October and November 1971 is reported upon.
