Características papeleiras dos "rolos-restos" das fábricas de compensados do Estado do Amazonas

Summary

This paper presents information obtained during the course of laboratory trials in which the residual core of veneer logs were considered for pulpwood. The importance of developind the plywood industry in Amazonas and the consequences thereof, are initially analysed. A brief diagnosis is made of the trend by use of sawmill wastes the pulp and paper industry, and the performance of the Amazonas plywood industry is subsequently examined. Further description and analysis considers: 1) wood (i. e., sampling procedures, chipping, classification, chemical composition, and specific gravity of the various woods; 2 Fiber anatomical features; 3 Cooking processes used to obtain pulp (soda and soda-sulfur, breft, as well as high yield neutral sulphite): 4) Bleaching procedures employed in the treatment of raw pulps, and comparison of the whitening response of the various processes; 5) Evaluation of raw and bleached pulps made from the different samples, as well as their mechanical characteristics vis-à-vis the particular manufacturing process employed. It is finally concluded that the conversion into pulp of the residual core from veneer logs is feasible. The pulp produced using the NSSC process was found to be satisfactory for the production of corrugated medium.
