Deomposing Hymenomycetes of Wood in Sawmills of Manaus, AM, Brazil

A survey of wood decomposing (Hymenomycetes) fungi in sawmills of Manaus, Amazonas, revealed the following species: Corioiopsis occidentalis, Pleurotus ostreatus, Pycnoporus sanguineus and Schizophyllum commune. Pleurotus ostreatus was the most frequent. The six commercial tree species examined were Ceiba pentandra (sumaúma), Copaifera multijuga (copaiba), Hura crepitans (assacu), Maquira coriacea (muiratinga), Pseudobombax munguba (munguba) and Virola surinamensis (virola). All showed signs of infestation in the bark and sapwood. Hura crepitans showed the highest incidence of fungal reproductive parts.
