Alguns aspectos da biologia reprodutiva do guaranazeiro (Paullinia cupana var. sorbilis (Mart.) Ducke - Sapindaceae

The object of this paper was the identification of insects visiting guaraná (Paullina cupana var. sorbilis) and the. determination of probable, polinators, in a plantation near Manaus, as well as to determine the rate, of visite on both male and female flowers, Also studied ωαs the variation in frequency of male and female flowers during the flowering periods.

Thirty two families of insects were collected in five orders. Hymenoptera Was the most frequent order with 71% of all the individuals . Twenty seven species of bees were found visiting the, flowers. The general pollination syndrome for the species seems to be adapted to Hymenoptera. It is sugested that Melipona seminigra merrilae, xylocopa muscara and Apis mellifara are among the most important pollinators while, other Ηymenoptera, Diptera, Lepdoptera and Coleoptera may be occationals. There does not seem to be any preference for male, or female flowers among the different groups of insects. Flowering occured during a 37-38 days with wo well defined periods. There was a 1-2 day pause, (no flowering) between the, two periods, coincident in all inflorescences, studied. The first period lasted 20-22 days, while, the second, shorter period only lasted 16-18 days. At no time did the flowering peaks for male, and famale, flowers coincide.
