ABSTRACT Objective: The optimal target for blood glucose concentration in critically ill patients is unclear. We will perform a systematic review and meta-analysis with aggregated and individual patient data from randomized controlled trials, comparing intensive glucose control with liberal glucose control in critically ill adults. Data sources: MEDLINE®, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Clinical Trials, and clinical trials registries (World Health Organization, clinical trials.gov). The authors of eligible trials will be invited to provide individual patient data. Published trial-level data from eligible trials that are not at high risk of bias will be included in an aggregated data meta-analysis if individual patient data are not available. Methods: Inclusion criteria: randomized controlled trials that recruited adult patients, targeting a blood glucose of ≤ 120mg/dL (≤ 6.6mmol/L) compared to a higher blood glucose concentration target using intravenous insulin in both groups. Excluded studies: those with an upper limit blood glucose target in the intervention group of > 120mg/dL (> 6.6mmol/L), or where intensive glucose control was only performed in the intraoperative period, and those where loss to follow-up exceeded 10% by hospital discharge. Primary endpoint: In-hospital mortality during index hospital admission. Secondary endpoints: mortality and survival at other timepoints, duration of invasive mechanical ventilation, vasoactive agents, and renal replacement therapy. A random effect Bayesian meta-analysis and hierarchical Bayesian models for individual patient data will be used. RESUMO Objetivo: Não está claro qual é a meta ideal de concentração de glicose no sangue em pacientes em estado grave. Realizaremos uma revisão sistemática e uma metanálise com dados agregados e de pacientes individuais de estudos controlados e randomizados, comparando o controle intensivo da glicose com o controle liberal da glicose em adultos em estado grave. Fontes de dados: MEDLINE®, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Clinical Trials e registros de ensaios clínicos (Organização Mundial da Saúde, clinical trials.gov). Os autores dos estudos qualificados serão convidados a fornecer dados individuais de pacientes. Os dados publicados em nível de ensaio qualificado que não apresentem alto risco de viés serão incluídos em uma metanálise de dados agregados se os dados individuais de pacientes não estiverem disponíveis. Métodos: Critérios de inclusão: ensaios clínicos controlados e randomizados que recrutaram pacientes adultos, com meta de glicemia ≤ 120mg/dL (≤ 6,6mmol/L) comparada a uma meta de concentração de glicemia mais alta com insulina intravenosa em ambos os grupos. Estudos excluídos: aqueles com meta de glicemia no limite superior no grupo de intervenção > 120mg/dL (> 6,6mmol/L), ou em que o controle intensivo de glicose foi realizado apenas no período intraoperatório, e aqueles em que a perda de seguimento excedeu 10% até a alta hospitalar. Desfecho primário: Mortalidade intra-hospitalar durante a admissão hospitalar. Desfechos secundários: Mortalidade e sobrevida em outros momentos, duração da ventilação mecânica invasiva, agentes vasoativos e terapia de substituição renal. Utilizaremos metanálise bayesiana de efeito randômico e modelos bayesianos hierárquicos para dados individuais de pacientes. Abstract Objectives: to determine the effects of vitamin B12 supplementation on neuropsychological function and disease progression in middle aged and elderly patients with cognitive impairment. Methods: this was a prospective case-control study. From May 2020 to May 2021, 307 participants clinically diagnosed with cognitive impairment in the Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University were enrolled. A total of 115 patients were included in this study. Meanwhile, 115 participants with cognitive impairment were randomly assigned in equal proportions to two groups: vitamin B12 treatment group (n = 58, vitamin B12 500 mg/d intramuscularly for seven days, followed by cobamamide 0.25 mg/d and methylcobalamin 0.50 mg/d) and the control group (n = 57). Demographic characteristics and blood biochemical variables were obtained from all participants. Cognitive performance was measured using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). Cognitive performance was measured at baseline and after six months. Results: the vitamin B12 supplementation treatment patients who presented with cognitive impairment showed significant improvement, especially in attention, calculation (p < 0.01) and visual-constructional ability (p < 0.05), in their neuropsychological function compared to their matched group. Conclusion: vitamin B12 supplementation may improve frontal function in patients with cognitive decline. Vitamin B12 levels should be investigated in all patients with cognitive impairment.

Resumen Objetivos: determinar los efectos de la suplementación con vitamina B12 en la función neuropsicológica y la progresión de la enfermedad en pacientes de mediana edad y adultos mayores con deterioro cognitivo. Métodos: se realizó un estudio prospectivo de casos y controles; se estudiaron 307 participantes, desde mayo de 2020 a mayo de 2021, diagnosticados clínicamente con deterioro cognitivo en el Departamento de Neurología, el Primer Hospital Anexado a la Universidad Médica de Chongqing. En el estudio se incluyeron un total de 115 pacientes con deterioro cognitivo que fueron asignados aleatoriamente en proporciones iguales a dos grupos: un grupo de tratamiento con vitamina B12 (n = 58, vitamina B12 500 mg/d intramuscular durante 7 días, seguido de cobamamida 0,25 mg/d y metilcobalamina 0,50 mg/d) y un grupo de control (n = 57). Se obtuvieron las características demográficas y las variables bioquímicas sanguíneas de todos los participantes. El rendimiento cognitivo se midió mediante el miniexamen del estado mental (MMSE) y la evaluación cognitiva de Montreal (Moca) al inicio del estudio y a los 6 meses. Resultados: los pacientes con deterioro cognitivo que recibieron tratamiento de suplementación con vitamina B12 mostraron una mejora significativa, especialmente en la atención, el cálculo (p < 0,01) y la capacidad visuoespacial (p < 0,05), en su función neuropsicológica en comparación con el grupo control. Conclusión: la suplementación con vitamina B12 puede mejorar la función frontal en pacientes con deterioro cognitivo. Los pacientes con deterioro cognitivo deben conocer sus propios niveles de vitamina B12.

Abstract Anthocyanin/polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan composite membrane was prepared by solution casting method using chitosan (CS) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as matrix and natural pigment anthocyanin as filler. The structures of the composite films were characterized by Uv-visible reflectance spectrum (UV-VIS), Fourier infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and the scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effects of adding anthocyanins on the physical properties, water resistance, degradation, antibacterial properties and pH responsiveness of the films were investigated. The experimental results showed that the prepared anthocyanin/polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan composite indicator films show color changes from pink to purple to blue and then to yellow-green when the pH value ranges from 2 to 14. The total color difference ΔE value is greater than 12. The antibacterial properties and other properties of the composite film can enhance by adding anthocyanin. The tensile strength of anthocyanin/polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan film is more than 70 MPa, which is larger than that of polyvinyl film and polyvinyl alcohol/chitosanfilm. The film has excellent physical, antibacterial properties and obvious pH response performance, making it ideal for food packaging.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The modulation of post-training fatigue in colleges and universities is an important part of today's physical education. The adjustment of sports fatigue is a fundamental aspect of modern college physical education, and its control is of great importance for the elevation in the sport level of athletes. Objective: Explore the effects of nutritional intervention on post-training fatigue in college athletes. Methods: 40 athletes were randomly selected as volunteers for the research, divided into control and experimental group, and practiced the same type of exercise and same intensity. The athletes in the experimental group took food in strict accordance with the food mixture described in the article, while the control group kept their regular diet unchanged. After the experiment, sports training was performed, followed by muscle creatine enzyme measurement and laboratory analysis of blood urea. These data were compared and analyzed with those before the experiment. Results: After adjusting the dietary structure, the CK and Bu indices of the athletes in the experimental group showed a downward trend, indicating that adjusting the nutritional structure can effectively improve the post-training fatigue of college athletes. Conclusion: It is recommended that physical education teachers and college coaches adjust the lifestyle and dietary structure according to the actual situation of the students, aiming to promote integral development and improved sports performance. Resumen Introducción: La modulación de la fatiga post-entrenamiento en colegios y universidades es una parte importante de la educación física universitaria actual. El ajuste de la fatiga deportiva es un aspecto fundamental de la educación física universitaria moderna y su control es de gran importancia para la elevación del nivel deportivo de los atletas. Objetivo: Explorar los efectos de la intervención nutricional sobre la fatiga post-entrenamiento en atletas universitarios. Métodos: 40 atletas fueron seleccionados al azar como voluntarios para la investigación, divididos en grupo control y experimental, practicaron el mismo tipo de ejercicio físico y con la misma intensidad. Los atletas del grupo experimental tomaron alimentos siguiendo estrictamente la mezcla de alimentos descrita en el artículo, mientras que el grupo de control mantuvo su dieta habitual sin cambios. Tras el experimento, se llevó a cabo una sesión de entrenamiento deportivo, seguida de la medición de la enzima creatina muscular y el análisis de laboratorio de la urea en sangre. Estos datos se compararon y analizaron con los anteriores al experimento. Resultados: Tras ajustar la estructura dietética, los índices de CK y Bu de los atletas del grupo experimental mostraron una tendencia descendente, lo que indica que el ajuste de la estructura nutricional puede mejorar eficazmente la fatiga post-entrenamiento de los atletas universitarios. Conclusión: Se recomienda que los profesores de educación física y los entrenadores universitarios ajusten el estilo de vida y la estructura nutricional de acuerdo con la situación real de los estudiantes, con el objetivo de promover el desarrollo integral y la mejora del rendimiento deportivo. RESUMO Introdução: A modulação da fadiga pós-treino nas faculdades e universidades é uma parte importante da atual educação física universitária. O ajuste da fadiga esportiva é um aspecto fundamental da educação física universitária moderna e seu controle é de grande importância para a elevação no nível esportivo dos atletas. Objetivo: Explorar os efeitos da intervenção nutricional sobre a fadiga pós-treino dos atletas universitários. Métodos: Foram selecionados 40 atletas aleatoriamente como voluntários para a pesquisa, divididos em grupo controle e experimental, praticaram o mesmo tipo de exercício físico e com a mesma intensidade. Os atletas do grupo experimental tomaram alimentos em estrita conformidade com a mistura alimentar descrita no artigo, enquanto o grupo de controle manteve sua alimentação regular inalterada. Após o experimento, foi realizado um treinamento esportivo, seguido de aferição da enzima creatina muscular e análise laboratorial de ureia no sangue. Esses dados foram comparados e analisados com os anteriores ao experimento. Resultados: Após o ajuste da estrutura dietética, os índices de CK e Bu dos atletas do grupo experimental mostraram uma tendência descendente, indicando que o ajuste da estrutura nutricional pode efetivamente melhorar a fadiga pós-treino dos atletas universitários. Conclusão: Recomenda-se aos professores de educação física e treinadores universitários ajustarem os hábitos de vida e estrutura alimentar de acordo com a situação real dos alunos, visando a promoção do desenvolvimento integral e melhora no desempenho esportivo. ABSTRACT Purpose: Oxidative stress and apoptosis contribute to the pathological basis of doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiotoxicity. Columbianadin (CBN) is one of the main bioactive constituents isolated from the root of Angelica pubescens. Herein, we intended to explore the potential role and molecular basis of CBN in DOX-induced cardiotoxicity. Methods: C57BL/6 mice were subjected to DOX (15 mg/kg/day, i.p.) to generate DOX-induced cardiotoxicity. CBN (10 mg/kg/day, i.p.) was administered for four week following DOX injection. Results: DOX administered markedly dampened cardiac function, increased cardiac injury, excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and cardiomyocyte loss. These alterations induced by DOX significantly alleviated by CBN treatment. Mechanistically, our results demonstrated that the CBN exerts cardioprotection role against DOX by up-regulating silent information regulator 1 (Sirt1) and decreasing acetylation of forkhead box O1 (FOXO1). Moreover, Sirt1 inhibition with Ex-527 significantly blunt the beneficial effect of CBN on DOX-induced cardiotoxicity, including cardiac dysfunction, ROS, and apoptosis. Conclusion: Collectively, CBN attenuated oxidative stress and cardiomyocyte apoptosis in DOX-induced cardiotoxicity through maintaining Sirt1/FOXO1 signaling pathway. Our results demonstrated that CBN might be used to treat DOX-related cardiotoxicity.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To determine the predictive value of maternal White Blood Cells (WBC), neutrophils, and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) for diagnosing Histological Chorioamnionitis (HCA) among women with Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) who underwent cervical cerclage. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted among women with singleton pregnancy and PPROM, who underwent cervical cerclage during 2018-2020. Results: A total of 55 eligible women were included in the final analysis, including 36 (61.02%) cases with HCA and 19 (38.98%) without HCA. Women with HCA had higher WBC count (12.31 ± 2.80) × 109/L and neutrophil count (9.67 ± 2.90)×109/L than those without HCA (10.35 ± 2.53) × 109/L and 7.82 ± 2.82 × 109/L, respectively) (both p < 0.05). The cut-off value of WBC count at 10.15×109/L was found to be the most effective in identifying HCA, with an Area Under Curve (AUC) of 0.707 (95% CI: 0.56-0.86; p = 0.012), sensitivity of 86.11%, specificity of 57.90%, Positive Predictive Value (PPV) of 79.49%, Negative Predictive Value (NPV) of 68.75%, and Youden index of 0.44. The combination of WBC + neutrophil had a slightly higher (AUC = 0.711, 95% CI: 0.57–0.86; p = 0.011), specificity (68.42%), and PPV (81.25%), but lower sensitivity (72.22%), than the WBC count alone. A cut-off value of neutrophil at 7.46 × 109/L was effective in identifying HCA, with an AUC of 0.689 (95% CI: 0.53-0.84; p = 0.022). Discussion: Combination use of WBC+neutrophil was found to be the most accurate predictor of HCA among women with PPROM after surgery of cervical cerclage.

ABSTRACT Atopopompilus Arnold, 1937 is a small genus of Pompilini. Most species are distributed in the Afrotropical Region, but there are a few in the Oriental region. In this contribution, the taxonomy of Atopopompilus from China is addressed, to ascertain species diversity and distribution in the country. One new species, Atopopompilus robusticarinatus Yang & Ma, sp. nov., is described from Yunnan and Tibet. The new species is similar to Atopopompilus daedalus daedalus (Bingham, 1896), but can be distinguished by the facial carina, the posterior margin of the pronotum and the male SGP and genitalia. In addition, the geographic distribution of and a key to the world species of Atopopompilus are updated. This study increased the number of known species Atopopompilus, and expanded the known distribution of the genus to the Palearctic region.

Abstract Objectives This study was to compare the effects of different local analgesia protocols on osteoarthritis patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Methods Medical records of 148 osteoarthritis patients who underwent unilateral TKA between October 2016 and October 2017 in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. All these patients were divided into three groups according to the pain management protocol (morphine, morphine + cocktail [100 mg ropivacaine, 10 mg morphine, and 30 mL 0.9% sodium chloride solution containing 2 mL betamethasone (4 mg)], or cocktail). The postoperative visual analog scale (VAS) score, muscle strength, and complications were compared between the groups. Results At 6 and 12 hours post-operation, the VAS score in group C was significantly higher than that in group A or group B. In addition, the muscle (quadriceps femoris) strength score of group C (3.7 ± 2.8) was significantly higher than that in groups A and B at 6 and 12 hours post-operation. The VAS score and muscle strength score showed no significant differences among the three groups at 24 and 36 hours post-operation. The time of postoperative first void of group C was significantly shorter than that of groups A and B. Groups A or B had a significantly higher incidence of nausea and emesis compared with group C. The incidence of pruritus was higher in groups A or B than that in group C. Conclusion Epidural anesthesia combined with local analgesic cocktail injection is a preferable effective multimodal analgesia for TKA.

Abstract Lagopsis supina (Steph) IK. Gal. was a traditional Chinese medicinal plant for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis (PBCRBS), anti-inflammatory and diuresis with little scientific validation. The aims of this study were first to evaluate the PBCRBS and anti-inflammatory effects of L. supina in a rat model of traumatic blood stasis (TBS). We demonstrated that an ethanolic extract of L. supina (LS, 460 mg/kg/d) possessed significant PBCRBS and remarkable inhibitory effect on inflammation cytokines, which were associated with renovated amount of the injured muscle fibers, alleviate the degree of the damaged tissue edema, decreased the number of inflammatory cells, increased the number of the capillary hyperplasia by hematoxylin and eosin (HE), as well as remarkably down-regulated ( p < 0.05 or p < 0.01) the levels of inflammation cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-10 by ELISA. This finding provide a pharmacological basis and partial interpretation for the clinical application of L. supina, which has therapeutic properties for blood stasis syndrome (BSS) and inflammation-related diseases.

ABSTRACT Purpose: Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a major public health problem with a huge economic burden worldwide. Ulinastatin (UTI), a serine protease inhibitor, has been reported to be anti-inflammatory, immune regulation, and organ protection by reducing reactive oxygen species production, and inflammation. Necroptosis is a programmed cell death mechanism that plays a vital role in neuronal cell death after ICH. However, the neuroprotection of UTI in ICH has not been confirmed, and the potential mechanism is unclear. The present study aimed to investigate the neuroprotection and potential molecular mechanisms of UTI in ICH-induced EBI in a C57BL/6 mouse model. Methods: The neurological score, brain water content, neuroinflammatory cytokine levels, and neuronal damage were evaluated. The anti-inflammation effectiveness of UTI in ICH patients also was evaluated. Results: UTI treatment markedly increased the neurological score, alleviate the brain edema, decreased the inflammatory cytokine TNF-α, interleukin‑1β (IL‑1β), IL‑6, NF‑κB levels, and RIP1/RIP3, which indicated that UTI-mediated inhibition of neuroinflammation, and necroptosis alleviated neuronal damage after ICH. UTI also can decrease the inflammatory cytokine of ICH patients. The neuroprotective capacity of UTI is partly dependent on the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway. Conclusions: UTI improves neurological outcomes in mice and reduces neuronal death by protecting against neural neuroinflammation, and necroptosis.

Abstract In this work, an immersion freezing system was proposed to shorten the total freezing time and improve the quality of frozen food. The thermal performance of the refrigerant liquid prepared for using in the immersion freezing system was evaluated. A three-dimensional model (3D) was developed to investigate the dynamic characteristics of food freezing process. The effects of the refrigerant liquid inlet flow rate, inlet temperature, total freezing time and freezing rate of chicken breast, velocity and temperature distribution in the immersion freezing system were investigated. In addition, the freezing rates of food using traditional air-blast freezing and the proposed immersion freezing were evaluated. The results showed that the freezing rate of food in immersion freezing was approximately 12.85 times higher than that of the traditional air-blast freezing. When the flow rate increased from 0.11 kg·s-1 to 0.63 kg·s-1, the total freezing time shortened by 36.9%. When the temperature decreased from -25 ºC to -40 ºC, the total freezing time shortened by 35.5%. However, the temperature of the refrigerant liquid should not be too low, which will lead to high viscosity of the liquid, thus resulting in increasing in the overall power consumption of the proposed system.

Abstract Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) plays a key role in tea processing. It catalyzes the conversion of tea polyphenols into theaflavin and its derivatives. PPO was partially purified and characterized in both its soluble form (sPPO) and membrane-bound form (mPPO) from tea (Camellia sinensis) leaves. Both forms were purified by three-phase partitioning and membrane ultrafiltration. sPPO and mPPO showed high activity against diphenols as substrate and had the highest affinity for catechol and caffeic acid. The optimum temperatures and pH for enzyme activity were different. mPPO was more stable than sPPO in the acidic pH range. Among the chemical inhibitors studied, oxalic acid exerted the highest inhibitory effect on mPPO, whereas EDTA showed the highest inhibitory effect on sPPO. Both sPPO and mPPO showed similar enzymatic synthesis rates in the formation of theaflavin-3'-gallate and theaflavin-3,3'-gallate. At high concentrations of the substrate, the synthesis of theaflavins was inhibited due to the presence of high levels of ester catechins. However, mPPO showed stronger stability against inhibition by ester catechins than sPPO.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To explore the effect of different gastrointestinal reconstruction techniques on laparoscopic distal gastrectomy of gastric cancer on the nutritional and anemia status, and quality of life (QoL) of patients. Methods: Eligible patients were randomly divided into three groups (n=36/group): Billroth I anastomosis group, Billroth II combined with Braun anastomosis group, and Roux-en-Y anastomosis group. Related indicators were compared and analyzed. Results: The general data were comparable among the three groups (all P>0.05). Among the surgical-related indicators and postoperative recovery indicators, only the comparison of the operation time was statistically significant (P=0.004). The follow-up time was 5~36 months (average 27.9 months). In terms of nutritional and anemia indicators, only the differences in the levels of prealbumin, hemoglobin and serum ferritin in 24 months after operation showed significant differences (P=0.015, P=0.003, P=0.005, respectively). There were no significant differences in hospital readmission rate, overall survival, and QoL among the three groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions: In laparoscopic gastrectomy for stage II~III distal gastric cancer, Billroth I anastomosis has shorter operation time than Billroth II combined with Braun anastomosis and Roux-en-Y anastomosis and advantages in the improvement of nutritional status and anemia recovery.

Delteredolaemus is assigned to the extant tribe Teredini, and shares a generally similar morphology with the extant genus Teredolaemus Sharp, 1885, although it can be distinguished from all other members in the tribe by the shape of the pronotum and mesoventral process, as well as the anteromedially tumid metaventrite.

Abstract This study looked at the inhibitory effects of Apocynum venetum tea flavonoids extract (AVTFE) on mouse glioma G422 cells. Through the use of high performance liquid chromatography, the flavonoids in AVTFE were examined (HPLC). Meanwhile, mice were injected with glioma G422 cells to create a mouse model of a transplanted tumor. AVTFE might significantly (P < 0.05) lower serum sIL-2R content and raise serum IFN-γ content in tumor-bearing mice, according to an analysis of mouse serum. In addition to reducing the rise in spleen weight and spleen index in mice brought on by transplanted tumors, AVTFE can limit the development of transplanted tumors in G422 cell mice. AVTFE can also boost immunity by encouraging T and B lymphocyte proliferation in tumor-bearing animals. AVTFE was therefore verified to have immunomodulatory properties and to limit the proliferation of glioma G422 cells.
