ABSTRACT Purpose: the aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between patient-reported swallowing disorders and common mental disorders after total laryngectomy. Methods: fourteen patients of both genders and aged 66 ± 8.63 years were assessed after total laryngectomy. They were all asked about the perception of swallowing disorders and answered the Self-Reporting Questionnaire. Patients with swallowing complaints also answered the MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory. The mean difference between groups was evaluated using the Mann-Whitney test, with a significance level of 5%. Results: the median of Self-Reporting Questionnaire total score was 3.00 [interquartile range: 0.00-5.00] and did not reflect the presence of common mental disorders. Five volunteers (35.7%) self-reported swallowing disorders and had a worse, although not significant (p = 0.15), performance on the Self-Reporting Questionnaire. The MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory indicated a limitation in the quality of life, with a greater impact of swallowing disorders in the emotional domain [median = 53.30; interquartile range: 33.30-74.95]. Conclusion: common mental disorders are not related to patient-reported swallowing disorders following total laryngectomy. However, patients with swallowing complaints had a negative impact on their quality of life, especially in the emotional domain.

RESUMO Objetivo: Traduzir e adaptar o questionário Thyroidectomy-Related Voice Questionaire (TVQ) para o português brasileiro. Método: o processo de tradução e adaptação transcultural foi dividido nas seguintes etapas: duas traduções independentes, síntese das traduções, análise por um comitê de especialistas, pré-teste, retradução, síntese final e versão final. O pré-teste foi realizado com 20 pacientes que se encontravam no período pré ou pós-operatório de tireoidectomia. A amostra foi caracterizada por meio de análise descritiva, e a concordância entre os especialistas foi calculada pelo Índice de Validade de Conteúdo por Item (IVC-I) e do questionário (IVC-Q). Resultados: ao longo das etapas do processo de tradução e adaptação, o instrumento necessitou de equivalências do tipo operacional, semântica, idiomática e sintática/gramatical, especialmente após avaliação dos especialistas e da população-alvo. Os IVC-I e IVC-Q foram, em sua maioria, aceitáveis. A retradução mostrou-se equivalente à versão original. A comparação entre as versões original, traduzida e retraduzida possibilitou a elaboração da versão final. Conclusão: o TVQ foi traduzido e adaptado para o português brasileiro, sendo considerado apto para as próximas etapas do processo de validação.

ABSTRACT Purpose: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Thyroidectomy-Related Voice Questionnaire (TVQ) to Brazilian Portuguese. Methods: We divided the process of translation and cross-cultural adaptation into the following stages: two independent translations; synthesis of the translations; analysis by an expert committee; pretest; back-translation; final synthesis; and final version. We performed the pretest with 20 patients before or after thyroidectomy. We characterized the sample by means of descriptive analysis, and calculated the agreement between the experts by the Item Content Validity Index (I-CVI) and the Questionnaire Content Validity Index (Q-CVI). Results: Throughout the translation and cross-cultural adaptation, the instrument required operational, semantic, idiomatic, and syntactic/grammatical equivalences, especially after the analyses by the experts and the target population. The I-CVI and Q-CVI were mostly acceptable. The back-translation was equivalent to the original version. The comparison between the original, translated, and back-translated versions made possible the final version. Conclusion: We translated and adapted the TVQ to Brazilian Portuguese. The questionnaire is suitable for the next steps of the validation process.

RESUMO: Objetivo: investigar como se dá o processo de inclusão de surdos no cenário do trânsito. Métodos: participaram do estudo 20 sujeitos, divididos em três grupos: G1, composto por 10 surdos; G2 composto por cinco profissionais de uma instituição de referência em assistência a sujeitos com necessidades educacionais específicas e G3 composto por cinco profissionais de um Departamento Estadual de Trânsito. Foram aplicadas entrevistas gravadas em áudio e vídeo, cujas respostas foram analisadas por meio do software Qualiquantisoft e aquelas com sentido semelhante foram reunidas para a construção de discursos do sujeito coletivo, tendo como base o método proposto por Lefèvre e Lefèvre. Resultados: os discursos do sujeito coletivo apontam para dificuldades na acessibilidade de surdos no trânsito e no processo de obtenção e renovação da carteira nacional de habilitação. De uma forma geral, todos os grupos apontaram sugestões como: a necessidade de intérprete para mediar o processo, a capacitação de profissionais para atenderem surdos e a realização da prova teórica em Libras, utilizando recursos de vídeo. Conclusão: embora haja avanços, há inúmeras falhas no que se trata da acessibilidade de pessoas surdas tanto no processo de obtenção/renovação da carteira nacional de habilitação quanto no trânsito. Portanto, é urgente que seja discutida a realidade enfrentada por essa população, visando soluções que possam garantir aos surdos não apenas o acesso ao trânsito, mas também a construção e adequada execução de políticas públicas que venham a lhes fornecer acessibilidade e segurança.

ABSTRACT: Purpose: to investigate how the process of including deaf people happen in traffic scenario. Methods: the study involved 20 subjects, divided into three groups: G1, composed by 10 deaf; G2 composed by five professionals from a reference institution in assistance to individuals with special educational needs and G3 composed by five professionals from a State Traffic Department. Interviews were applied recorded in audio and video, whose answers were analyzed using the software Qualiquantisoft and those with similar meaning were gathered for the construction of collective subject discourse, based on the method proposed by Lefèvre and Lefèvre. Results: the collective subject discourses point to difficulties in accessibility of deaf in traffic and in the process of obtaining and renewing of the national driver’s license. In general, all groups pointed suggestions as: the need of the interpreter to mediate the process, the training of professionals to serving deaf and the realization of the theoretical test in Libras, using video. Conclusion: although there have been advances, there are numerous flaws with regards to accessibility for deaf people both in the process of obtaining/renewing a Brazilian driving license and on the road. It is therefore urgent that the reality faced by this population be discussed with the aim of finding solutions that can guarantee not only deaf people's access onto the road, but also the construction and suitable execution of public policies that provide them with accessibility and safety.

RESUMO: Objetivo: investigar as queixas auditivas de trabalhadores expostos ao ruído ocupacional em uma indústria cerâmica da cidade de João Pessoa/PB. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo descritivo, observacional e transversal, feito com 83 trabalhadores dessa indústria, com realização de entrevista sobre queixas auditivas. Resultados: dentre os trabalhadores, 14,7% referiram alguma queixa de saúde geral e 56% alegaram ter alguma queixa auditiva relacionada à exposição ao ruído em seu trabalho. As principais queixas auditivas foram desconforto a sons de forte intensidade (30,1%) e zumbido (24%). Houve correlação significante (p < .05) entre o tempo de atuação dos trabalhadores no seu posto de trabalho e as queixas de desconforto a sons de forte intensidade, zumbido, diminuição auditiva e sensação de plenitude auricular. Conclusão: os resultados deste estudo apontam para uma associação direta entre tempo de exposição ao ruído e sintomas auditivos, o que permite concluir que melhores políticas de educação em saúde auditiva podem ser necessárias. Além disso, verificou-se que trabalhadores afirmaram conhecer os riscos do ruído para a saúde, mas não compreendem que os sintomas auditivos que apresentam podem estar associados a este importante risco físico, o que pode dificultar as ações de prevenção dos riscos do ruído.

ABSTRACT: Purpose: to investigate the auditory complaints of workers exposed to occupational noise in a pottery industry, in the city of João Pessoa/PB. Methods: this is a descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study with 83 workers from this industry, with conducting interview about hearing complaints. Results: among workers, 14.7% reported some general health complaints and 56% claimed to have any auditory complaint related to noise exposure in their work. The main auditory complaints were discomfort to intense sounds (30.1%) and tinnitus (24%). There was a significant correlation (p < .05) between the time of working of the employees in their jobs and discomfort to intense sounds, tinnitus, hearing loss and ear fullness. Conclusion: the results of this study show a direct association between time of exposure to noise and auditory symptoms, which suggests that better hearing health education politics may be necessary. In addition, it was found that workers knew the risks of noise on health, but did not comprehend that the auditory symptoms they have may be associated with this important physical risk, which can hinder actions to prevent noise hazards.
