Resumo O emergir do período republicano foi marcado por um intenso debate acerca da construção de narrativas que forjavam as identidades estaduais, por meio de peças históricas, que delineavam o passado e legitimavam os limites do espaço estadual. Um espaço privilegiado nesse debate foram os institutos históricos e geográficos, instituições nas quais os sócios garimpavam documentos e expunham suas narrativas. Neste artigo tenho como escopo a atuação do engenheiro Theodoro Sampaio, no âmbito da Revista do Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de São Paulo, entre 1896 e 1912. Trata-se de um importante intelectual negro que pensou a história como recurso para construir o limite meridional do Brasil.

Abstract The rising of the republican period was marked by an intense debate over the making of narratives that could forge the identity of the states using historical pieces that outlined the past and would legitimize the borders of the state's space. A privileged space in this debate was the historical and geographical institutes, institutions whose members would search for documents and expose their narratives. In this article, my scope is the work of the engineer Theodoro Sampaio in the IHGSP journal between 1896 and 1912. He was an important black intellectual who thought history as a tool to build Brazil's meridional boundaries.

Resumen El emerger del periodo republicano fue marcado por un intenso debate cerca de la construcción de las narrativas que delineaban el pasado y legitimaban los límites del espacio estadual. Un espacio privilegiado en este debate fueron los institutos históricos y geográficos, instituciones en las cuales los socios buscaban documentos y exponían sus narrativas. En este artículo tengo como objetivo la actuación del ingeniero Theodoro Sampaio en el ámbito de la Revista del IHGSP en el periodo de 1896 a 1912. Él es un importante intelectual negro que pensó la historia como recurso para construir el límite meridional de Brasil.

Resumo No último quartel do século XIX ocorreram inúmeros embates em defesa da renovação dos conteúdos de história no espaço escolar brasileiro. Um dos principais eixos norteadores das discussões era atinente à ampliação da História Pátria na disciplina História, que até então privilegiava a experiência clássica europeia. Neste artigo analisamos o processo de construção do espaço paulista e a defesa da História do Brasil na escrita da história escolar do intelectual paulista Américo Braziliense. Tem-se como fonte central o livro escolar, publicado em 1876, que reverberava o deslocamento do eixo espacial da corte para a província de São Paulo, no âmbito do processo de construção da cultura política republicana paulista após a Convenção de Itu (1873).

Abstract: In the last quarter of the 19th century, there were countless battles in defense of the renewal of the contents of history in the Brazilian school space. One of the main guidelines of the discussions was related to the expansion of the History of the Mother country in History, which until then had privileged the classic European experience. In this article, we analyze the process of construction of the space of São Paulo and the defense of the History of Brazil in the writing of the school history of the intellectual Paulo Américo Braziliense. A central source is the school book, published in 1876, which reverberated the displacement of the space axis of the Court to the Province of São Paulo, in the context of the process of construction of the republican political culture of São Paulo after the Itu Convention (1873).

Resumo: Este artigo tem como escopo as pinturas de milagres do forro da Matriz Basílica de Aparecida, mais conhecida atualmente como “Basílica Velha”. Esse templo foi edificado na segunda metade do século XIX para atender ao elevado número de romeiros que visitavam a localidade com o intuito de venerar a Virgem da Conceição Aparecida. A execução das obras dos elementos artísticos foi realizada pelo artista alemão Thomas Georg Driendl entre 1884 e 1888. Nesse sentido, buscamos analisar os usos do passado por meio da compreensão das pinturas do forro do templo como instrumento de apropriação litúrgica das narrativas populares acerca dos milagres no final do século XIX.

Abstract: This article has as scope the paintings of miracles of the lining of the Matrix Basilica of Aparecida, in Aparecida City, Brazil, better known today as “Old Basilica”. This temple was built in the second half of the 19th century, to meet the high number of pilgrims who visited the locality in order to venerate the Virgin of the Conception Aparecida. The work of the artistic elements was carried out by the German artist Thomas Georg Driendl between 1884 and 1888. In this sense, we sought to analyze the uses of the past by understanding the paintings of the temple lining as an instrument of liturgical appropriation of popular narratives about miracles At the end of the 19th century.

RESUMO Em junho de 1889, após a posse do gabinete do visconde de Ouro Preto, o príncipe-consorte do Brasil, Conde d'Eu, saiu em expedição pelas províncias do antigo norte do Império. Tratava-se de uma longa viagem na qual iria percorrer as províncias litorâneas do vasto país, passando por todas as capitais entre o Amazonas e a Ba hia. Este artigo analisa as articulações políticas de líderes republicanos e monarquistas acerca dessa viagem, bem como o envolvimento das lideranças provinciais no descerrar do Impé rio. Por meio dos textos publicados na imp rensa regional, torna-se possível compreender o envolvimento das elites locais e até mesmo das camadas populares na polarização política ocorrida no fim da monarquia.

ABSTRACT In June 1889, after the inauguration of the Ouro Preto viscount's office, the prince consort of Brazil, Conde d'Eu, went on an expedition by the northern provinces. It was a long journey in which would go through the coastal provinces of the vast country, through all the capital of the Amazonas and Bahia. This article analyzes the Republican leaders of political articulations and monarchists on this trip as well as the in volvement of provincial leaders in the unveil ing of the Empire. Through the texts published in the regional press, the surface is possible to understand the involvement of local elites and even the popular strata in the political polariza tion that took place at the end of the monarchy.
