ABSTRACT Returning to the theme of the influence of the experiences of the revolts that precede the independence process and the contrasts between such events, this article examines the singular trajectory of two characters between the end of the eighteenth and the first decades of the nineteenth century. José Resende Costa Filho and Manuel Rodrigues da Costa participated in the Inconfidência Mineira (Minas Conspiracy) and, after serving their sentence with exile, returned to Brazil and played an active role in the political emancipation process from 1822. To this end, an effort is made to follow the course of action of each of them, from the conspiracy in Minas Gerais, to their political rehabilitation. This occurs with the participation in the debates on the demands made by the Portuguese courts to Brazil and, after the rupture, in the preparation of the Constituent Assembly of 1823. We seek to approximate, within what the available historical sources offer, the political languages adopted in the different circumstances in which they were involved, without failing to insert them in their contexts.

RESUMO Voltando-se para o tema da influência das experiências das revoltas que antecedem o processo de independência e os contrastes entre tais eventos, o artigo examina a trajetória singular de dois personagens entre o final do século XVIII e as primeiras décadas do século XIX. José Resende Costa Filho e o padre Manuel Rodrigues da Costa participaram da Inconfidência Mineira e, depois de cumprir a condenação com o degredo, retornam ao Brasil e atuam no processo de emancipação política a partir de 1822. Para isso faz-se um esforço de acompanhar o percurso da atuação de cada um deles, desde a conspiração em Minas Gerais, até suas reabilitações políticas. Isso ocorre com a participação nos debates sobre as exigências das cortes de Portugal ao Brasil e, após o rompimento, na preparação da Constituinte de 1823. Busca-se aproximar, dentro do que as fontes históricas disponíveis oferecem, as linguagens políticas adotadas nas diferentes circunstâncias em que estiveram envolvidos, sem deixar de inseri-las em seus contextos.

OBJECTIVES: This observational, cross-sectional study based aimed to test whether heart failure (HF)-disease management program (DMP) components are influencing care and clinical decision-making in Brazil. METHODS: The survey respondents were cardiologists recommended by experts in the field and invited to participate in the survey via printed form or email. The survey consisted of 29 questions addressing site demographics, public versus private infrastructure, HF baseline data of patients, clinical management of HF, performance indicators, and perceptions about HF treatment. RESULTS: Data were obtained from 98 centers (58% public and 42% private practice) distributed across Brazil. Public HF-DMPs compared to private HF-DMP were associated with a higher percentage of HF-DMP-dedicated services (79% vs 24%; OR: 12, 95% CI: 94-34), multidisciplinary HF (MHF)-DMP [84% vs 65%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-8), HF educational programs (49% vs 18%; OR: 4; 95% CI: 1-2), written instructions before hospital discharge (83% vs 76%; OR: 1; 95% CI: 0-5), rehabilitation (69% vs 39%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), monitoring (44% vs 29%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-5), guideline-directed medical therapy-HF use (94% vs 85%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15), and less B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) dosage (73% vs 88%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-9), and key performance indicators (37% vs 60%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 1-7). In comparison to non- MHF-DMP, MHF-DMP was associated with more educational initiatives (42% vs 6%; OR: 12; 95% CI: 1-97), written instructions (83% vs 68%; OR: 2: 95% CI: 1-7), rehabilitation (69% vs 17%; OR: 11; 95% CI: 3-44), monitoring (47% vs 6%; OR: 14; 95% CI: 2-115), GDMT-HF (92% vs 83%; OR: 3; 95% CI: 0-15). In addition, there were less use of BNP as a biomarker (70% vs 84%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 1-8) and key performance indicators (35% vs 51%; OR: 2; 95% CI: 91,6) in the non-MHF group. Physicians considered changing or introducing new medications mostly when patients were hospitalized or when observing worsening disease and/or symptoms. Adherence to drug treatment and non-drug treatment factors were the greatest medical problems associated with HF treatment. CONCLUSION: HF-DMPs are highly heterogeneous. New strategies for HF care should consider the present study highlights and clinical decision-making processes to improve HF patient care.

Resumo A atividade física é um comportamento complexo e influenciado por variáveis sociodemográficas e clínicas. A melhor compreensão desses fatores possibilita considerar a associação deles com a atividade física. O objetivo deste estudo foi estimar os efeitos do nível socioeconômico, idade, gordura corporal e sintomas depressivos na frequência de atividade física entre adultos. Trata-se de um estudo transversal de base populacional conduzido com 808 indivíduos. Foram avaliadas as inter-relações entre as variáveis nível socioeconômico, idade, gordura corporal e sintomas depressivos no nível de atividade física total, por meio da técnica “path analysis”. Observou-se efeito direto negativo e significativo da idade (β = -0,113; p < 0,004) nos níveis de atividade física. A idade (β = 0,376; p < 0,001) influenciou a gordura corporal, com efeito positivo e significativo. Os sintomas de depressão foram influenciados negativamente pelo nível socioeconômico (β = -0,126; p < 0,001) e positivamente pela idade (β = 0,244; p < 0,001) e gordura corporal (β = 0,169; p < 0,004). O nível socioeconômico, a gordura corporal e os sintomas depressivos não influenciaram diretamente os níveis de atividade física. Concluindo, os resultados mostraram que o avançar da idade contribui para a redução da prática de atividade física.

Abstract Physical activity is a complex behavior influenced by sociodemographic and clinical factors. A better understanding of the relationships between these factors is essential to better understanding their influence on physical activity. The objective of this study was to examine the association between socioeconomic status, age, body fat, and depressive symptoms and level of physical activity among adults. We conducted a cross-sectional population-based study with 808 individuals to examine the interrelations between the above factors and their influence on level of physical activity using path analysis. Age had a significant direct negative effect on level of physical activity (β = -0.113, p < 0.004) and a significant positive effect on body fat (β = 0.376, p < 0.001). Depressive symptoms were negatively influenced by socioeconomic status (β = -0.126, p < 0.001) and positively influenced by age (β = 0.244, p < 0.001) and body fat (β = 0.169; p < 0.004). Socioeconomic status, body fat and depressive symptoms did not directly influence level of physical activity. This study concludes that level of physical activity declines with advancing age.

Resumo: O artigo analisa a presença de livros com temas relacionados à ciência e aos saberes ilustrados na livraria do cônego Luís Vieira da Silva, um dos implicados na Inconfidência Mineira de 1789. No contexto se discutem a relação de seus livros, os saberes locais e algumas práticas “sediciosas” de leitura, proporcionadas pelas ideias revolucionárias que circulavam em Minas Gerais na segunda metade do século XVIII, vindas da Europa e da América do Norte.

Abstract: The article analyzes the presence of books with themes related to Science and the illustrated knowledge in the library of the canon Luís Vieira da Silva, one of those implicated in the Inconfidência Mineira of 1789. In the context discusses the relation of his books, local bodies of knowledge and some “seditious” reading practices, provided by the revolutionary ideas that circulated in Minas Gerais in the second half of the eighteenth century, coming from Europe and North America.

Resumen: El artículo analiza la presencia de libros con temas relacionados con la ciencia y el conocimiento ilustrados en la biblioteca del canónigo Luís Vieira da Silva, uno de los involucrados en la Inconfidência Mineira de 1789. En el contexto, se discute la relación de sus libros, el conocimiento local y algunas prácticas de lectura “sediciosas”, proporcionadas por las ideas revolucionarias que circularon en Minas Gerais en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, procedentes de Europa y América del Norte.

Resumo Objetivo: Analisar a adesão da população às medidas de restrição de contato físico e disseminação da COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: Inquérito de saúde, realizado pela internet, com amostragem em cadeia, no período de 24 de abril a 24 de maio de 2020. A intensidade da adesão à restrição de contato físico foi analisada segundo características sociodemográficas, utilizando-se modelos de regressão logística para investigar associações com ‘Nenhuma/pouca adesão’. Resultados: Dos 45.161 participantes, 74,2% (73,8-74,6%) relataram intensa adesão às medidas. O grupo que não aderiu às medidas foi composto homens (31,7%), com idade de 30 a 49 anos (36,4%), baixa escolaridade (33,0%), trabalhando durante a pandemia (81,3%), residentes nas regiões Norte (28,1%) e Centro-Oeste (28,5%) do país. Houve importante redução das taxas de crescimento diário, de 45,4 para 5,0%. Conclusão: Grande parte da população brasileira aderiu às medidas de restrição de contato físico, o que, possivelmente, contribuiu para reduzir a disseminação da COVID-19.

Abstract Objective: To analyze the adherence of the population to physical contact restriction measures and the spread of COVID-19 in Brazil. Methods: This was a web-based health survey carried out from April 24 to May 24 2020 using a chain sampling procedure. Intensity of adherence to physical contact restriction measures was analyzed according to sociodemographic characteristics, using logistic regression models to investigate associations with ‘No/little adherence’. Results: Of the 45,161 participants, 74.2% (73.8;74.6%) reported intense adherence to the measures. The group that did not adhere to the measures was characterized by men (31.7%), those aged 30 to 49 (36.4%), those with low education levels (33.0%), those who worked during the pandemic (81.3%), those resident in the North (28.1%) and Midwest (28.5%) regions of the country. In Brazil as a whole, there was a decrease in COVID-19 daily growth rates, from 45.4% to 5.0%. Conclusion: A large part of the Brazilian population adhered to physical contact restriction measures, which possibly contributed to decreasing the spread of COVID-19.

Resumen Objetivo: Analizar la adhesión de los brasileños a las medidas de restricción de contacto físico y diseminación del COVID-19. Métodos: Encuesta de salud realizada por internet con muesteo em cadena entre 24 de abril y 24 de mayo de 2020. La intensidad de la adhesión a la restricción de contacto físico se analizó de acuerdo con características sociodemográficas, utilizando modelos de regresión logística para investigar asociaciones con ‘Ninguna/poca adhesión’. Resultados: Participaron 45.161, de los cuales un 74,2% (73,8;74,6%) informó intensa adhesión. El grupo con poca adhesión se caracterizó por hombres (31,7%), 30-49 años (36,4%), baja educación (33,0%), que trabajaron durante la pandemia (81,3%), residiendo em las regiones Norte (28,1%) y Centro-Oeste (28,5%) del país. En Brasil hubo una reducción relevante em las tasas de crecimiento diario, del 45,4% al 5,0%. Conclusión: Gran parte de la población adhirió a las medidas de restricción de contacto físico, lo que posiblemente contribuyó a la disminución de la diseminación del COVID-19.

Resumo A proposta deste estudo foi comparar os efeitos de uma única sessão de alongamento estático ou dinâmico dos isquiotibias e dez sessões do programa de alongamento na amplitude de movimento e desempenho neuromuscular e funcional de indivíduos saudáveis. Quarenta e cinco homens ativos e saudáveis, foram distribuídos em três grupos: controle, alongamento estático e alongamento dinâmico. Não houve diferença significativa entre os grupos experimentais e controle para todas as variáveis (p >0,05). Pode-se concluir que nem uma única sessão de alongamento estático e dinâmico dos isquiotibiais, nem 10 sessões do programa de alongamento afetaram a amplitude de movimento e o desempenho neuromuscular e funcional.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of a single hamstring static or dynamic stretching session and a 10-session stretching program on the range of motion, neuromuscular performance and functional performance of healthy subjects. Forty-five, healthy, active men were divided into three groups: control; static stretching and dynamic stretching. There were no significant differences in ratings between the experimental and control groups for any of the variables (p > 0.05). It can be concluded that neither a single session of hamstring static or dynamic stretching nor a 10-session stretching program affected range of motion, neuromuscular or functional performance.

Resumen El propósito de este estudio fue comparar los efectos de una sola sesión de estiramientos estático o dinámico en los isquiotibiales, y diez sesiones del programa de estiramiento en el rango de movimiento y rendimiento neuromuscular y funcional de individuos sanos. Cuarenta y cinco hombres activos y sanos fueron divididos en tres grupos: control, estiramiento estático y estiramiento dinámico. No hubo ninguna diferencia considerable entre los grupos experimentales y de control respecto a todas las variables (p >0,05). Se puede concluir que ni una sola sesión de estiramiento estático o dinámico de los isquiotibiales ni 10 sesiones del programa de estiramiento afectaron al rango de movimiento ni al rendimiento neuromuscular y funcional.

Abstract This systematic review assessed the literature to evaluate the efficiency of polymerization of bulk-fill composite resins at 4 mm restoration depth. PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus and Web of Science databases were searched with no restrictions on year, publication status, or article’s language. Selection criteria included studies that evaluated bulk-fill composite resin when inserted in a minimum thickness of 4 mm, followed by curing according to the manufacturers’ instructions; presented sound statistical data; and comparison with a control group and/or a reference measurement of quality of polymerization. The evidence level was evaluated by qualitative scoring system and classified as high-, moderate- and low- evidence level. A total of 534 articles were retrieved in the initial search. After the review process, only 10 full-text articles met the inclusion criteria. Most articles included (80%) were classified as high evidence level. Among several techniques, microhardness was the most frequently method performed by the studies included in this systematic review. Irrespective to the “in vitro” method performed, bulk fill RBCs were partially likely to fulfill the important requirement regarding properly curing in 4 mm of cavity depth measured by depth of cure and / or degree of conversion. In general, low viscosities BFCs performed better regarding polymerization efficiency compared to the high viscosities BFCs.

Abstract The objective of the present study was to evaluate the reliability of intra-rater and inter-instrument measures during two flexibility programs. Fifty-three active and healthy males, aged between 18 and 28 years old, were randomly included in three groups: control (Cg, n = 18), static stretching (SSg, n = 17), and dynamic stretching (DSg, n = 18). All participants underwent measurements of their active range of knee extension using manual goniometry and computerized photogrammetry, measured in four separated assessments and analyzed using the SPSS, with ((5%. Both methodologies presented very strongintra-raterreliability (ICC: 0.91(0.99; P<0.001) at all four assessments in all the groups, and the instruments showed weak (r: 0.31-0.6) to strong(r: 0.61-0.9) correlation, in the Cg (P<0.05) and strong (r: 0.61-0.9) in the SSg and DSg (P<0.01), although without differences between groups, indicating that the measures are equally reliable, regardless of interventions.

Abstract The effect of restoration depth on the curing time of a conventional and two bulk-fill composite resins by measuring microhardness and the respective radiosity of the bottom surface of the specimen was investigated. 1-, 3- and 5-mm thick washers were filled with Surefil SDR Flow–U (SDR), Tetric EvoCeram Bulk Fill-IVA (TEC) or Esthet-X HD–B1 (EHD), and cured with Bluephase® G2 for 40s. Additional 1-mm washers were filled with SDR, TEC or EHD, placed above the light sensor of MARC®, stacked with pre-cured 1-, 3- or 5-mm washer of respective material, and cured for 2.5~60s to mimic 2-, 4- and 6-mm thick composite curing. The sensor measured the radiosity (EB) at the bottom of specimen stacks. Vickers hardness (VH) was measured immediately at 5 locations with triplicate specimens. Nonlinear regression of VH vs EB by VH=α[1-exp(-EB/β)] with all thickness shows that the values of α, maximum hardness, are 21.6±1.0 kg/mm2 for SDR, 38.3±0.6 kg/mm2 for TEC and 45.3±2.6 kg/mm2 for EHD, and the values of β, rate parameter, are 0.40±0.06 J/cm2 for SDR, 0.77±0.04 J/cm2 for TEC and 0.58±0.09 J/cm2 for EHD. The radiosity of the bottom surface was calculated when the bottom surface of each material attained 80% of α of each material. The curing times for each material are in agreement with manufacturer recommendation for thickness. It is possible to estimate time needed to cure composite resin of known depth adequately by the radiosity and microhardness of the bottom surface.

RESUMO O artigo discute o sequestro de bens dos participantes da Inconfidência Mineira (1789) como fonte de pesquisa para o estudo da história do livro, das bibliotecas e das práticas de leitura em Minas Gerais, na segunda metade do século XVIII. Primeiro, examinou-se a historiografia do livro e sua interseção com o sequestro. Também foram analisadas as possibilidades e os limites impostos à sua utilização como material de estudo para bibliotecas privadas. Finalmente, mostrou-se algumas práticas de leitura feitas pelos sediciosos mineiros de acordo com as ideias revolucionárias que circulavam na Europa e na América do Norte.

ABSTRACT This article discusses the seizure of assets owned by the participants in the Minas Gerais State separatist movement known as the Inconfidência Mineira in Brazil, and whether these seizure records may serve as a source for research on the history of books, libraries, and general reading habits in Minas Gerais in the second half of the eighteenth century. First, the historical context of books and the intersection between the seizures and the region’s literary culture were examined. The possibilities and the limits to the use of these seizure records in the study of private libraries is also analyzed. Finally, some of the conspirators’ reading habits, which were influenced by the revolutionary ideas that circulated Europe and North America, are presented.

Objetivo: Descrever a prevalência e fatores de risco ao tabagismo entre estudantes de Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brasil. Método: Corte transversal com 781 estudantes de 16 escolas. Para a análise estatística utilizou-se o sistema computacional R, teste qui-quadrado e regressão logística. Resultados: A prevalência de fumadores foi de 9,8%; a experimentação, 31,2%; fumadores atuais 6%; ex-fumadores 4,6%; expostos ao fumo ambiental, 68%. Fatores de risco: conviver com fumadores, ser indiferente ao controlo da venda, considerar desnecessário o aumento da fiscalização e observar menores a comprar cigarros. Conclusão: As prevalências não apresentaram redução, contrariando a tendência observada nas últimas décadas no Brasil. Os fatores de risco estão ligados ao convívio com fumadores e à falha na prevenção e cumprimento das leis de proteção dirigidas aos adolescentes.

Objective: We aim to describe the prevalence and risk factors of smoking among students in Campina Grande, PB, Brazil. Method: A cross-sectional study was completed with 781 students from 16 schools. We performed statistical analyses using the R computing environment, χ2 test, and logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of smokers was 9.8%, with 31.2% lifetime users, 6% current smokers, 4.6% former smokers, and 68% passive smokers. Risk factors included living with smokers, being indifferent to the sale control, considering an increase in surveillance to be unnecessary, and observing underage people buying cigarettes. Conclusion: The prevalence of smoking did not decrease compared to the trends observed in the recent decades in Brazil. Risk factors were linked to living with smokers and a failure to both prevent smoking and obey protection laws aimed at teenagers.

ResumoObjetivo:avaliar os casos de feridas infectadas em pós- -operatório ortopédico.Métodos:foram estudados pacientes de pós-operatório que evoluíram com processo infeccioso, durante o período de novembro de 2012 a novembro de 2013. Foi realizada coleta intraoperatória de secreções com o auxílio de swabs estéreis, e o material foi encaminhado para análise microbiológica.Resultados:durante o período analisado, 38 procedimentos cirúrgicos evoluíram para processo infeccioso. O tipo de cirurgia que apresentou o maior número de infecções foi a osteossíntese, em 36 (94,7%) pacientes. Em relação ao material utilizado, 18 (36%) cirurgias que empregaram fixador externo e 17 (34 %) que fizeram uso de placa se infectaram. A bactéria que causou o maior número de infecções foi a Staphylococcus aureus, acometendo 16 (43,9%) pacientes, seguida pela Acinetobacter baumannii, que acometeu 4 (10,5%) pacientes. Em relação ao perfil de resistência das cepas Gram-positivas aos antibióticos, 100% das cepas de Staphylococcus aureus foram sensíveis à vancomicina, e 31,3%, à ceftriaxona. Quanto às bactérias Gram-negativas, 100% das cepas de Acinetobacter baumannii apresentaram resistência a ceftriaxona, gentamicina e imipenem.Conclusão:o controle de infecções em pós-operatório se faz necessário, utilizando antibióticos de forma correta e consciente, evitando a resistência aos agentes bacterianos.

SummaryObjective:to evaluate the cases of wound infections in orthopedic postoperative period.Methods:postoperative patients who developed infection during the period from November 2012 to November 2013 were studied. Secretions were collected during surgery using sterile swabs, and sent for microbiological analysis.Results:during the period analyzed, 38 surgical procedures progressed to infection. The type of surgery presenting the largest number of infections was osteosynthesis, in 36 (94.7%) patients. Among the materials used, 18 (36%) surgeries that used external fixator were infected, and 17 (34%) using plate. The species of bacteria that caused the largest number of infections were Staphylococcus aureus, infecting 16 (43.9%) patients, followed by Acinetobacter baumannii, which infected four (10.5%) patients. Regarding the resistance profile of Gram-positive strains to antibiotics, 100% of Staphylococcus aureus strains were susceptible to vancomycin and 31.3%, to ceftriaxone. As for the Gram-negative bacteria, 100% of Acinetobacter baumannii strains were resistant to ceftriaxone, gentamicin and imipenem.Conclusion:infection control in the postoperative period is necessary, using antibiotics correctly and consciously, avoiding resistance of bacterial agents.

Background: Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic transmural inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract of unknown cause. Malnutrition associated with active CD has been reduced although obesity has increased. Dietary strategies such as those with high-protein have been proposed to reduce body fat. This study compares the effects of two supplements on the nutritional status of CD patients. Materials and Methods: 68 CD patients were randomized in two groups: whey protein group (WP) and soy protein group (SP). Using bioimpedance analysis, anthropometry and albumin and pre-albumin dosages the nutritional status was measured before starting the intervention and after 8 and 16 weeks. The disease activity was determined by Crohn's Disease Activity Index and serum C-reactive protein dosage and dietary intake by 24h dietary recalls. Results: Forty-one patients concluded the study and both supplements changed body composition similarly. Triceps skin fold thickness (p< 0.001) and body fat percentage (p=0.001) decreased, whereas mid-arm muscle circumference (p=0.004), corrected arm muscle area (p=0.005) and body lean percentage (p=0.001) increased. Conclusions: For Crohn's disease patients undergoing anti TNF-alpha and azatioprine therapies, supplementation with whey and soy proteins changes body composition through reduction of body fat and thus contributes to control inflammation.

Introducción: La enfermedad de Crohn (EC) es un trastorno inflamatorio crónico transmural del tracto gastrointestinal de carácter desconocida. La desnutrición asociada con EC activa se ha reducido a pesar de la obesidad que ha aumentado. Se han propuesto estrategias dietéticas, como aquellos con alto contenido de proteínas para reducir la grasa corporal. Este estudio compara los efectos de dos suplementos sobre el estado nutricional de los pacientes con EC. Materiales y Métodos: Fueron randomizados en dos grupos 68 pacientes con EC: el grupo de proteína de suero y el grupo de proteína de soya. Se utilizo el análisis de bioimpedancia eléctrica, la antropometría y dosificaciones de albúmina y prealbúmina del estado nutricional midiéndose antes de comenzar la intervención y después de 8 y 16 semanas. La actividad de la enfermedad se determinó por Índice de Actividad de Enfermedad de Crohn (CDAI), dosificación en suero de la proteína C reactiva y la ingesta dietética por recordatorio de 24h. Resultados: Cuarenta y un pacientes concluyeron el estudio y ambos suplementos cambiaron la composición corporal de manera similar. El espesor del pliegue cutáneo del tríceps (p <0,001) y el porcentaje de grasa corporal (p = 0,001) se redujeron, mientras que la circunferencia muscular braquial (p = 0,004), el área muscular del brazo corregida (p = 0,005) y el porcentaje corporal magra (p = 0,001) han aumentado. Conclusiones: En los pacientes con enfermedad de Crohn sometidos con anti-TNF-alfa y terapias azatioprina, la suplementación con proteínas de suero de leche y de soya cambia la composición corporal a través de la reducción de la grasa corporal y por lo tanto contribuye para controlar la inflamación.
