Resumen En México, más de 75% de las especies de cactáceas están sometidas a presión antropogénica y destrucción de su hábitat, como es el caso de Ferocactus pilosus, por lo que es importante aumentar el conocimiento para su recuperación in situ. El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la manera en que el ambiente semiárido del Altiplano de Tamaulipas tiende a limitar la distribución de cinco poblaciones de F. pilosus y promueve cambios morfológicos que operan en frutos y semillas. El dendrograma definió la similitud entre poblaciones II, III y IV de la biznaga, debido a diferencias en pedregosidad y ligera condición de humedad por el tipo de clima y la elevación. El análisis Manova y Tukey demostraron la existencia de diferencias significativas en número de semillas (NS) y peso de semillas (PS) de biznaga. El NS fue estadísticamente igual entre las poblaciones II (674 ±191), III (657 ±221) y IV (643 ±246), mientras que en las mismas poblaciones PS fue 0.92 ±0.27, 0.9 ±0.3 y 0.88 ±0.34 mg, respectivamente. Las poblaciones II, III y IV de la biznaga cabuchera, aprovecharon mejor las condiciones ambientales del Altiplano de Tamaulipas prevalecientes en 2013 y 2014, lo que provocó una variación importante de NS y PS en las mismas poblaciones de F. pilosus y el rechazo parcial de la hipótesis.

Abstract In Mexico, more than 75% of cactus species are subject to anthropogenic pressure and habitat destruction, as is the case of Ferocactus pilosus, so it is important to increase knowledge for their recovery in situ. The objective of the study was to determine how the semiarid environment of the Highlands of Tamaulipas tends to limit the distribution of five populations of F. pilosus and promotes morphological changes that operate in fruits and seeds. The dendrogram defined the similarity between populations II, III and IV of the barrel cactus, due to differences in stoniness and slight humidity condition due to the type of climate and elevation. The analyses Manova and Tukey demonstrated the existence of significant differences in seed number (SN) and seed weight (SW) of barrel cactus. The SN was statistically equal between populations II (674 ±191), III (657 ±221) and IV (643 ±246), while in the same populations, SW was 0.92 ±0.27, 0.9 ±0.3 and 0.88 ±0.34 mg, respectively. Populations II, III and IV of the Mexican fire barrel cacti took better advantage of the environmental conditions of the Highlands of Tamaulipas prevailing in 2013 and 2014, which caused a significant variation of SN and SW in the same populations of F. pilosus and the partial rejection of the hypothesis.

ABSTRACT Soil salinity is a factor affecting crop production and yield. An estimated 74% of agricultural soils are saline, a problem that could be aggravated due to climate change. Our goal was to determine the lethal dose 50 (LD50) of NaCl and ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS) in jalapeño pepper (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Jalapeño M.) for selecting putative salt-tolerant mutants. Root length was used as an indicator of the LD50 of NaCl in seedlings cultured for 35 days in MS medium containing 0 (without NaCl), 50, 100, 150, 200, or 250 mM NaCl and germination rate as an indicator of the LD50 of EMS in seeds exposed to 0% (without EMS), 0.01%, 0.1%, 0.25%, or 0.5% EMS for 3 and 6 h. We selected salt-tolerant seedlings after 35 days in medium with the determined LD50 of NaCl. Canonical and probit analyses to the LD50 of NaCl and EMS results and multinomial linear regression for germination and survival were applied. LD50 of NaCl (150 mM) and EMS (0.3%) were determined. Seed exposure to 0.5% EMS for 6 h reduced germination (67%) and seedling survival (18%). We obtained four putative salt-tolerant mutants by culturing in medium containing the LD50 of NaCl, two from seeds exposed for 6 h to 0.01 EMS, and one each from of the seeds treated with 0.1% or 0.5% EMS. The results show that it is possible to select putative salt-tolerant mutants of jalapeño pepper through mutagenesis with EMS and in vitro culture in media containing the LD50 of NaCl.

RESUMO A salinidade do solo é um factor que afeta a produção e o rendimento das culturas. Estima-se que 74% dos solos agrícolas são salinos, um problema que pode ser agravado devido às alterações climáticas. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar a dose letal 50 (LD50) de NaCl e metanossulfonato de etila (EMS) em pimenta jalapeño (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Jalapeño M.) para a seleção de mutantes putativos tolerantes ao sal. Foi utilizado o comprimento da raiz como indicador do LD50 de NaCl em plântulas cultivadas durante 35 dias em meio MS contendo 0 (sem NaCl), 50, 100, 150, 200, ou 250 mM de NaCl e a taxa de germinação como indicador do LD50 de EMS em sementes expostas a 0% (sem EMS), 0.01%, 0.1%, 0.25%, ou 0.5% EMS durante 3 e 6 h. Plântulas tolerantes ao sal após 35 dias em meio com o LD50 para NaCl foram selecionadas. Foram usadas análises canônicas e probit nos resultados de LD50 de NaCl e de EMS e regressão linear multinomial para germinação e sobrevivência. Foram determinados o LD50 de NaCl (150 mM) e EMS (0.3%). A exposição de sementes a 0.5% EMS por 6 h reduziu a germinação (67%) e sobrevivência das plântulas (18%). Quatro mutantes putativos tolerantes ao sal através de cultivos em meio contendo o LD50 de NaCl, dois de sementes expostas durante 6 h a 0.01 EMS, e um de cada uma das sementes tratadas com 0.1% ou 0.5% de EMS foram obtidos. Os resultados mostram que é possível selecionar mutantes putativos tolerantes de pimenta jalapeño ao sal por meio de mutagênese com EMS e cultura in vitro em meios contendo o LD50 de NaCl.

RESUMO Os frutos silvestres da pimenta piquín são consumidos e comercializados, devido ao seu sabor e propriedades nutracêuticas. a germinação heterogênea das sementes fez com que os tratamentos pré-germinativos não fossem padronizados. Portanto, nosso objetivo foi avaliar tratamentos pré-germinativos de sementes de pimenta piquín de uma planta silvestre do município de Victoria, Tamaulipas, México, consistindo em imersão por diferentes períodos (2, 24 e 48 h) em soluções com concentrações variáveis dos seguintes hormônios vegetais: ácido naftaleno acético (NAA; 0,1, 1,0, 2,5 mM), ácido salicílico (SA; 1,0, 5,0, 10 mM), ácido giberélico (GA3, 1,0, 5, 0,10 mM), ácido indol-3-butírico (IBA; 1,0, 2,0, 3,0 mM), além do bioestimulante comercial Biozyme comercial (Bioz) contendo minerais e reguladores de crescimento (Bioz; 0,5, 1, 2%) e ácido sulfúrico (H2SO4; 2,5, 10%) em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado. usando água destilada como controle. Para cada tratamento, medimos o índice de embebição, a porcentagem de germinação, o tempo para obtenção de 50% de germinação (T50) e o coeficiente de variação do tempo de germinação (CVt). Nossos resultados mostraram que a embebição foi semelhante no controle e nos tratamentos, mas diferiu entre os tratamentos. A maior embebição registrada em 48 h foi de 87%. A maior porcentagem de germinação (79,2%) foi alcançada com 2 h de imersão em 2% Bioz, seguido por 1 mM NAA (62%) e 5 mM SA. T50 e CVt foram de 10-26 dias e 0-39%, respectivamente. De acordo com nossos resultados, concluímos que os tratamentos de pré-germinação que testamos melhoraram o potencial fisiológico para germinação de sementes de pimenta piquin.

ABSTRACT Wild piquin pepper fruits are consumed and traded because of their flavor, nutritional and pharmaceutical properties. The heterogeneous germination of its seeds has caused pregermination treatments to be unstandardized. Because of that, our goal was to evaluate pregermination treatments of piquin pepper seeds from a wild plant from the municipality of Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico, consisting of immersion for different periods (2, 24, 48 h) in solutions with variable concentrations of the growth regulators naphthalene acetic acid (NAA; 0.1, 1.0, 2.5 mM), salicylic acid (SA; 1.0, 5.0, 10 mM), gibberellic acid (GA3, 1.0, 5.0, 10 mM), indole-3-butyric acid (IBA; 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 mM), the commercial product Biozyme (Bioz) containing minerals and growth regulators (Bioz; 0.5, 1, 2%), and sulfuric acid (H2SO4; 2, 5, 10%) in a completely randomized design, using distilled water as the control. For each treatment, we measured the imbibition ratio, germination percentage, time to obtain 50% germination (T50), and coefficient of variation of germination time (CVt). Our results showed that the imbibition was similar in the control and the treatments, but it differed between treatments. The highest imbibition recorded in 48 h was 87%. The highest germination percentage (79.2%) was achieved with 2 h immersion in 2% Bioz, followed by 1 mM NAA (62%) and 5 mM SA (56%). T50 and CVt were 10-26 d and 0-39%, respectively. According to our results, we concluded that the pregermination treatments we assayed improved the physiological potential for the germination of piquin pepper seeds.

Abstract Citrus fruits are one of the most important crops worldwide, as it is produced in 140 countries. One of the limitations for its production are diseases, they represent considerable damages in the orchards and due to this they diminish the production and cause millionaire losses in the citrus sector. The main diseases are: Phytophthora spp., Mycosphaerella citri, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Candidatus Liberibacter spp. and citrus sadness virus (VTC). Pathogens can occur at any phenological stage of the crop and throughout the plant, whether in leaves, stems, roots or fruits. These microorganisms cause symptoms of chlorosis, mottling, less development and growth, deficiencies in the absorption of water and nutrients, rot, necrosis and in more extreme cases the death of the plant. For the management of phytopathogens there are different alternatives, the application of agrochemicals based on sulfur and copper (oxychloride and sulfate) are efficient in 70%, in addition, the use of resistant varieties (C. volkameriana, C. aurantium, among others), cultural measures such as thermotherapy, weed control and good drainage in the garden. On the other hand, to a lesser extent biological control is implemented, the application of beneficial microorganisms (Trichoderma, Bacillus subtilis) have demonstrated effectiveness up to 80%. As well as the release of parasitoids and predators such as Tamarixia radiata, Cycloneda sanguinea and Harmonia axyridis, which represent a good alternative for vector control. Therefore, the objective of this review is to describe the impact and status of the main citrus diseases present in Mexico.

Resumen Los cítricos son uno de los cultivos de mayor importancia a nivel mundial, ya que se produce en 140 países. Una de las limitantes para su producción son las enfermedades, representan daños considerables en las huertas y debido a esto disminuyen la producción y provocan pérdidas millonarias en el sector citrícola. Las principales enfermedades son: Phytophthora spp., Mycosphaerella citri, Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Candidatus Liberibacter spp. y virus de la tristeza de los cítricos (VTC). Los patógenos pueden presentarse en cualquier etapa fenológica del cultivo y en toda la planta, ya sea en hojas, tallos, raíces o frutos. Dichos microorganismos causan síntomas de clorosis, moteado, menor desarrollo y crecimiento, deficiencias en la absorción de agua y nutrientes, pudrición, necrosis y en casos más extremos la muerte de la planta. Para el manejo de los fitopatógenos existen diferentes alternativas, la aplicación de agroquímicos a base de azufre y cobre (oxicloruro y sulfato) son eficientes en 70%, además, el uso de variedades resistentes (C. volkameriana, C. aurantium, entre otros), medidas culturales como termoterapia, control de malezas y buen drenaje en el huerto. Por otra parte, en menor medida se implementa el control biológico, la aplicación de microorganismos benéficos (Trichoderma, Bacillus subtilis) han demostrado efectividad hasta 80%. Así como la liberación de parasitoides y depredadores como Tamarixia radiata, Cycloneda sanguínea y Harmonia axyridis, los cuales representan una buena alternativa para el control de vectores. Por lo anterior, el objetivo de esta revisión es describir el impacto y estatus de las principales enfermedades de cítricos presentes en México.

RESUMO As respostas agronómicas ao uso dos insumos agrícolas, têm sido usados na agricultura para identificar o nível óptimo de fornecimento de nutrimentos para um alto rendimento, estratégia que ajuda a evitar perdas económicas, e a evitar o excessivo aplicativo de fertilizantes que têm provocado contaminação de mantos acuíferos e degradação do solos. O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a eficiência no uso da água, eficiência agronômica do nitrogênio, unidades calor e uso da evapotranspiração no rendimento e componentes do rendimento de girassol em condições quentes em duas épocas de cultivo em função da fertilização de nitrógeno. Foi realizada no campo em condições experimentais. Os tratamentos consistiram em duas épocas e três níveis de aplicação de fertilização nitrogenada e um controle de 0, 60 80 e 120 kg N ha-1, sendo usado como fonte de nitrogênio uréia. O delineamento experimental foi blocos completos randomizados, com arranjo fatorial e quatro repetições. A ocorrência de estádios fenológicos em cv de girassol. O cobalto não foi modificado pela aplicação de tratamentos. A aplicação de uréia, favoreceu a eficiência agronômica e eficiência no uso da água, modificou positivamente os componentes do rendimento aumentando a área do capítulo, o peso de 100 grãos e o rendimento de grãos por capítulo. A adubação nitrogenada se manifestou em favor do girassol, embora as condições ambientais sejam de importância crítica, como demonstrado em uma clara interação entre a resposta ao rendimento e a fertilização e o ambiente onde foi desenvolvido.

ABSTRACT Agronomic responses to the use of agricultural inputs have been used in agriculture to identify the optimal level of nutrients to be supplied for high yield. This strategy helps to avoid economic losses and excessive application of fertilizers that has caused pollution of aquifers and soil degradation. The aim of the study was to evaluate water use efficiency, agronomic efficiency of nitrogen, heat units and use of evapotranspiration in yield and its components in sunflowers under hot climate conditions in function of nitrogen fertilizer application during two sowing season. The experiment was conducted in the field. The treatments were two sowing seasons and three levels of nitrogen fertilizer application and one control: 0, 60, 80 and 120 kg N ha-1. The nitrogen source was urea. The experimental design was complete random blocks with factorial array and four replications. The occurrence of cv. Cobalto sunflower phenological stages were not modified by the treatments. Urea favored agronomic efficiency and water use efficiency. Yield components were modified positively, with increasing receptacle area, 100-grain weight, and grain yield per receptacle. Application of nitrogen fertilizer favored sunflower development, although environmental conditions are of critical importance as demonstrated by a clear interaction between the yield response to fertilizer application and the environment where the plants grew.
