INTRODUCTION After the Second World War, science comes to be understood as a vital sector for the development and progress of a country and, consequently, nations invested more resources for research activities. The need to manage these resources and to understanding scientific and technological dynamics stimulated the development of areas related to metrics on science performance and impact, such as bibliometrics, scientometrics and patentometrics. Studies in these areas on a given topic have information retrieval as their initial stage, which requires the use of an efficient search strategy to retrieve the maximum number of documents of interest with the minimum number of false positives. OBJECTIVE To propose a model for developing a search strategy for retrieving scientific and technological retrieval of scientific and technological information on an emerging topic: 3D printing in quantitative metric studies. RESULTS For the case of 3D printing, the proposed model retrieved a quantity 70% higher than that identified in the literature for scientific documents and 44% higher for patents. CONCLUSION The use of the model may increase remarkably the amount of scientific and technological information retrieved, it may the identification of terms for emerging technologies before they become established and it may improve the quality of the data, avoiding conclusions. 

INTRODUÇÃO Após a segunda guerra mundial, a ciência passa a ser compreendida como um setor vital para o desenvolvimento e progresso de um país, e, consequentemente, as nações passaram a investir mais recursos para as atividades de pesquisa. A necessidade de gerenciar esses recursos e também de compreender a dinâmica científica e tecnológica estimulou o desenvolvimento de áreas relacionadas a métricas de desempenho e de impacto da ciência, como bibliometria, cientometria e patentometria. Estudos dessas áreas sobre um determinado tema têm como etapa inicial a recuperação da informação, a qual requer o uso de uma estratégia de busca eficiente para recuperar o máximo de documentos de interesse com o mínimo de falsos positivos. OBJETIVO O presente estudo propõe um modelo para o desenvolvimento de estratégia de busca para a recuperação da informação científica e tecnológica em um tema emergente: a impressão 3D em estudos métricos quantitativos. RESULTADOS Para o caso da impressão 3D, o modelo proposto recuperou um quantitativo 70% superior ao identificado na literatura para documentos científicos e 44% superior para patentes. CONCLUSÃO A utilização do modelo pode ampliar consideravelmente a quantidade de informação científica e tecnológica recuperada, possibilita a identificação de termos para tecnologias emergentes antes que esses se estabeleçam e também proporciona melhoria na qualidade dos dados, evitando conclusões equivocadas.

BACKGROUND In March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the Solidarity Program, probably the largest global initiative to encourage and support research in four promising drugs, named Remdesivir, Hydroxychloroquine, β Interferon and the combination Lopinavir / Ritonavir, to reduce the mortality of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). OBJECTIVES Considering the potential impact of Solidarity Program to restrain the current pandemic, the present study aims to investigate whether it was designed upon indicators of scientific productivity, defined as the level of the production of new scientific knowledge and of the institutional capabilities, estimated in terms of scientific publications and technological agreements. METHODS The scientific documents on Alphacoronavirus, Betacoronavirus, Gammacoronavirus and Coronavirus were retrieved from Scopus database while the technological agreements on coronavirus were obtained through Cortellis. As for the institutions and countries, we have considered the data on author’s affiliations in both set of data. For comparison, we included the analysis of documents related with other drugs or therapies, such as vaccines and antibodies, which were listed in a Clarivate’s report on coronaviruses research. FINDINGS Most of the analysis refers to documents on Coronavirus, the largest group. The number of documents related to WHO’s drugs are almost five times higher than in the other groups. This subset of documents involves the largest and most diverse number of institutions and countries. As for agreements, we observed a smaller number of institutions involved in it, suggesting differences between countries in terms of technical and human capabilities to develop basic and/or clinical research on coronavirus and to develop new forms or products to treat or to prevent the disease. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Hence, the results shown in this study illustrate that decisions taken by an international scientific body, as WHO, were mainly based in scientific knowledge and institutional competencies.

BACKGROUND Despite the current global trend of reduction in the morbidity and mortality of neglected diseases, dengue’s incidence has increased and occurrence areas have expanded. Dengue also persists as a scientific and technological challenge since there is no effective treatment, vaccine, vector control or public health intervention. Combining bibliometrics and social network analysis methods can support the mapping of dengue research and development (R&D) activities worldwide. OBJECTIVES The aim of this paper is to map the scientific scenario related to dengue research worldwide. METHODS We use scientific publication data from Web of Science Core Collection - articles indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-EXPANDED) - and combine bibliometrics and social network analysis techniques to identify the most relevant journals, scientific references, research areas, countries and research organisations in the dengue scientific landscape. FINDINGS Our results show a significant increase of dengue publications over time; tropical medicine and virology as the most frequent research areas and biochemistry and molecular biology as the most central area in the network; USA and Brazil as the most productive countries; and Mahidol University and Fundação Oswaldo Cruz as the main research organisations and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention as the most central organisation in the collaboration network. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Our findings can be used to strengthen a global knowledge platform guiding policy, planning and funding decisions as well as to providing directions to researchers and institutions. So that, by offering to the scientific community, policy makers and public health practitioners a mapping of the dengue scientific landscape, this paper has aimed to contribute to upcoming debates, decision-making and planning on dengue R&D and public health strategies worldwide.
