Resumo Este estudo tem por objetivo prospectar a possível localização do Prado Guarany, um dos hipódromos que houve no Rio de Janeiro do século XIX, ativo entre os anos de 1884 e 1890. Consideramos que investigar um estabelecimento nos dias de hoje pouco conhecido pode nos permitir discutir os movimentos de urbanização, bem como os processos seletivos de memória. Trata-se de uma arqueologia da paisagem. Para alcance do intuito, cruzamos informações obtidas em periódicos, iconografias (obras de arte e fotografias), mapas e trabalhos de campo (visitas etnográficas para identificar permanências no espaço). Este artigo inaugura um projeto que pretende pesquisar as modificações das paisagens da capital fluminense nas quais há registros de experiências ligadas ao esporte, uma das manifestações culturais que, desde o século XIX, intensamente tem se estruturado na cidade. Trata-se de uma proposta de construção de uma arqueologia do esporte.

Abstract This study intends to identify the localization of Prado Guarany, one of the racecourses that existed in Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century, active between the years 1884 and 1890. We have considered that investigating an establishment little known these days can allow us to discuss the movements of urbanization as well as the selective processes of memory. It is an archaeology of the landscape. In order to reach our goal, we cross information obtained in newspapers, iconographies (art works and photographs), maps and work in the field (ethnographic visits to identify permanencies in the space). This article inaugurates a project that intends to research the modifications of the landscapes of the Fluminense capital in which there are records of experiences related to sport, one of the cultural manifestations that, since the 19th century, has been intensively structured in the city. This is a proposition to build an archaeology of sport.

RESUMO O objetivo deste estudo é discutir a experiência do Prado Guarany, um dos hipódromos que houve no Rio de Janeiro do século XIX, ativo entre os anos de 1884 e 1890. Ao interpretar seu modus operandi e os posicionamentos sobre seu funcionamento, esperamos lançar um olhar sobre certos embates ocorridos entre distintos grupos da sociedade fluminense, suas motivações e repercussões na construção de memórias da cidade. Para alcance do objetivo, ainda que também tenhamos utilizado documentação governamental, prioritariamente fizemos uso de revistas e jornais publicados no período em tela.

ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to discuss the experience of the Prado Guarany, one of the racecourses of Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century, active between the years 1884 and 1890. In interpreting its modus operandi and the points of view on its functioning, we hope to reflect about certain conflicts that occurred between different groups of the Rio de Janeiro society, their motivations and repercussions in the construction of the city memories. In order to reach the goal, even though we have also used governmental documentation, we primarily made use of magazines and newspapers published in the period.

RESUMO O romance O Mestre e Margarida de Mikhail Bulgákov põe em evidência o conflito das diferentes abordagens do problema do "Jesus histórico". A referida obra do escritor e dramaturgo soviético, que se insere em um contexto político e social do stalinismo, é analisada do ponto de vista da apresentação da figura de Cristo como personagem histórica e é contemporizada com publicações sobre a religião, sob ângulos da evolução histórica da sociedade russa e soviética, na época da escrita do romance. Os núcleos separados da análise do conteúdo dos Evangelhos, segundo a narrativa de Bulgákov, ressaltando o crime, o castigo e a vingança, enfatizam a natureza humana de Cristo, seu discurso e seus sentimentos e levam a conclusões sobre uma busca do "Jesus histórico" por meio da literatura soviética.

ABSTRACT Mikhail Bulgakov`s novel The Master and Margarita highlights the conflict of different approaches to the problem of "historical Jesus". The novel of the Soviet writer and playwright, written as a part of the political and social context of Stalinism, is analyzed from the standpoint of the Christ figure approach as a historical character and is contemporized with publications on religious topics, through the prism of the historical evolution of Russian and Soviet society at the time of the novel`s writing. The separate segments of the analysis of Bulgakov's narrative of the Gospels, which dwell upon the crime, the punishment and the vengeance, emphasize the human nature of Christ, his discourse and his feelings and lead to some conclusions of a quest for "historical Jesus" in Soviet literature.
